The Tropical Fruits Multipurpose Cooperative at Barangay Matulong, Manaoag, Pangasinan, led by Lito Arenas (second from right in the picture), is one of the mango producers that export their produce to other countries. There have been challenges in their sector, such as the disruptions brought about by the pandemic and cecid fly infestation, but they managed to remain resilient by adopting novel and cost-effective agricultural practices, along with the cooperation of other private mango farmers and stakeholders as well as assistance from the regional offices of the Department of Agriculture.
The FRLD, led by Antonio V. Roces, met with Lito Arenas together with the DA’s officers from the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service, and discussed the current issues challenging Pangasinan’s mango sector, and the lucrative opportunities it can give with the right management and agricultural practices.
For its 23rd edition, Agrilink 2023 will highlight Region 1’s mango industry and showcase how this high-value crop can contribute to local, regional, and national agricultural growth.
