This two-part session covers both plant protection and future-ready farming:
Know the Plant Quarantine System in the Philippines: Understand how plant quarantine safeguards local agriculture by preventing the spread of pests and diseases, ensuring crop biosecurity, and keeping trade systems safe and efficient.
Growing Food in the City: Hydroponics and Urban Gardening and Beyond Soil: Transforming Urban Spaces with Hydroponics and Gardening: Discover how hydroponics is redefining farming by growing plants without soil, using nutrient-rich water solutions that support efficient resource use, higher yields, and year-round harvests. Learn how this method can turn rooftops, backyards, and underutilized urban spaces into productive farmsābringing fresh, healthy crops closer to consumers while maximizing sustainability.
The resource speaker is Mark Kenneth Sierra, Agriculturist I at the BPIāAgricultural Engineering Division, who brings over five years of experience in agriculture, with active research and practice in hydroponics since 2023. A licensed agriculturist and graduate of Catanduanes State University, he advocates innovative and sustainable farming technologies that bridge rural and urban food systems.
