Following the recent co-organizers’ meeting, preparations continue to move forward with discussions on the latest event updates, planned activities, and programs that connect closely with this year’s theme, “Agri Food Hub Facilities: A Boost to Efficiency in the Value and Market Chains.”
Among the key areas discussed were the Department of Agriculture – Philippines’ ongoing and future initiatives to strengthen agricultural infrastructure, logistics, storage, and market readiness. These include cold storage facilities for high-value crops such as onions, as well as facilities that support rice seed storage and supply.
Cold storage is especially important for crops like onions, where proper temperature-controlled storage can help extend shelf life, reduce spoilage, and give farmers more flexibility on when to sell. For rice seeds, cold-chain support plays a different but equally important role. Seeds need to maintain quality before planting, and proper storage can help preserve germination, vigor, and protection from deterioration.
These initiatives reflect the wider need for facilities that help agricultural products and inputs move through the value chain in better condition. From crop storage and seed preservation to postharvest handling, consolidation, logistics, and market linkage, stronger facilities can help reduce losses, protect value, and support more reliable supply.
